Top 10 New Animals You Won't Belive Exist

10 - Pinocchio has relatives…

Albeit from the frog family! This is the Pinocchio frog – a recent discovery found in the Foja Mountains in Indonesia. The frog is able to make his nose bigger and smaller. It’s bigger when the male is calling out, and goes smaller when he is quiet and calm. They are usually found high above the ground, and was spotted quite accidentally by explorers in 2008.

9 – Spider pig, spider pig…

As recently as 2015, the Pig nosed Vampire Rat was discovered in Indonesia – a pretty cute looking rat, but don’t be fooled. Open his mouth, and you will find fangs that will put Dracula to shame! Fangs grow to about .75 inches – hard to believe on such a small fellow. But don’t stress, they have lost the ability to take strong, hard bites and they mostly eat worms and larvae.

8 - Peek A Boo, I see you!

This recently discovered spider is called the Peek A Boo Spider, and watching him in action is hilarious. There is nothing particularly amazing looking with this spider, but the way it attracts the female is so engaging. He plays a game of Peek A Boo.
The male has paddle like hands, and hides underneath a leaf and waves these little paddles. If he is lucky, the female will chase him – if he is not so lucky, well the female will eat him. Nom nom nom

7 - Back form the dead…

Initially found in 1928, but never seen again. Scientists believed this millipede was extinct. But to their surprise, they were rediscovered in 2015. Females can have up to 750 legs and males 550 – it’s a good thing they don’t wear shoes! They only live in a small area of California, and sadly the species is very rare – so researchers are trying to ensure longevity for the species.

6 - Mystery solved…

These beautiful shapes in the sand were a mystery for many, many years and the recent discovery of the Pufferfish has finally solved it. The male pufferfish drags his body over the sand floor, to create these exquisitely shaped nests. He hopes it will attract the attention of the female, so she will mate with him. The different shapes and grooves protect the eggs, while inside the nest.

5 - What not to be in your next life…

A Fairy Like Moth! It’s the Enigma moth which was discovered a few months back in Australia. It’s been called a “living dinosaur” and has ancient roots.
But how is their crazy life, they live one single day as an adult.
Head out cocoon
Mate
Reproduce
Die
That’s It – all in one day!

4 - There are millions of fish in the sea…

But not so many seahorses! So scientists were super excited to find a new species for the first time in 150 years! This is now known as the Ruby Seadragon, as it’s colour was a bright shade of red, as opposed to the orange colour of the leafy seadragons, and the more purply / yellow hues of the common seadragons.

3 - Not an Irrelephant find…

This tiny little mouse type animal comes with its own cute little trunk. It’s believed its more closely related to elephants then shrews, and scientists discovered him in the remote deserts of Namibia. He is a new species of elephant shrew, and as tiny as what he is – shrews have been known to reach speeds of about 28.8 kms.

2 - I do believe in fairies!

Scientists have recently discovered the fairyfly, which we as humans are unable to see. It lives in a bucolic forest setting, has beautiful delicate wings with long fringes.
Fairyflys sounds so much more romantic, they are actually just tiny wasps – and thank goodness they do not bother humans, otherwise we would have major problems! Lucky for us, but not the eggs of other insects – where the fairyfly is a parasite.

1 - Just keep swimming…

This beautiful river dolphin was only discovered in 2014. Researcher believed there was only 5 types of River dolphins, the Amazon River dolphin, the Bolivian river dolphin, the south Asian river dolphin, the La Plata Dolphin and Bajii. This dolphin was discovered in the Araguaia river basin, and is very, very rare. This is the first river dolphin discovery since 1918
